Devin Nunes, head of the House Intelligence Committee, made a COLOSSAL mistake today, and it apparently was the last straw for Adam Schiff (the ranking Democrat on the committee).
Here’s what happened:
Devin Nunes shared new information that he received on the Russia investigation with both the White House and the press BEFORE briefing the House Intelligence Committee on it. This is a major ethical violation, given that the House Intelligence Committee’s job is to oversee the White House (and in this case, investigate them for colluding with the Russians). So obviously the last thing it should be doing is giving the White House the details of an ongoing investigation, especially before sharing those details with the rest of the members of the committee!
Here’s the totally unprecedented, bizarre, impromptu press conference that Devin Nunes held today. He reveals what he considers to be evidence supporting Trump’s wiretapping claim, but actually is just the normal, legal surveillance that the FBI is constantly doing to keep tabs on Russian diplomats and spies. In doing so he hurts his own case by reminding everyone that the Trump campaign was talking to the Russians constantly…so much so that the FBI incidentally picked up these communications in their normal surveillance!
Apparently, this was the last straw for Adam Schiff, who’s been very cool-headed for the past few weeks in the face of Nunes’ efforts to shift focus away from the Russia investigation. Schiff proved today that he’s the wrong guy to try to pull this type of stunt on. He’s a former federal prosecutor who is emerging a hero that Democrats need right now.
Here’s his response on Twitter, in which he SLAMS Nunes and teaches him a thing or two about what the purpose of an oversight committee is:
Today, Chairman Nunes shared information with WH still withheld from our committee. He cannot conduct a credible investigation this way. pic.twitter.com/wwrp7H7JWC

WOW. And he wasn’t even done yet. In a Chuck Todd interview not long after that tweet, Schiff reveals that he now has MORE than circumstantial evidence to support the allegation of collusion between the Trump campaign and Russia.
Think Devin Nunes might think twice about cutting Adam Schiff out of the loop again?
And if that wasn’t enough bad news for Trump on the the Russia investigation today, CNN just released a new article indicating that it too has heard from anonymous sources that the FBI investigation has uncovered evidence indicating that Trump associates may have coordinated with the Russians:
US officials: Info suggests Trump associates may have coordinated with Russians https://t.co/rIzLvUqwIb

So if you’re keeping track at home, that’s now TWO sources, Adam Schiff and CNN’s anonymous source, who are saying there’s more than circumstantial evidence of collusion.
This is getting VERY INTERESTING. We’ll keep you posted as the story develops.
