Did he really say that? Yes, Gov. Rick Perry ACTUALLY wants more guns in movie theaters after several mass shootings in movie theaters. He feels that more guns would lead to safer outcomes for movie goers. Mr. Perry’s arguments run contrary to rational logic and presuppose that guns = safety even though everything that we know about guns in movie theaters runs contrary to this belief!
Let’s think about this: Why would you need a gun in a movie theater? Are movie theaters inherently dangerous? The simple answer is: no! Shockingly, movie theaters are not war zones. Movie Theaters are establishments where ordinary citizens go to relax and enjoy a cinematic experience. Anyone who carries a firearm into a movie theater is likely looking for trouble. Furthermore, anyone who carries an assault rifle into a movie theater is DEFINITELY looking for trouble.
Why does Gov. Rick Perry feel that more guns will resolve the epidemic of gun violence? That’s like saying that more AIDS will resolve the epidemic of AIDS. Actually, it doesn’t. We need stricter gun laws that check for mental illness and more robust gun safety regulations writ large.
Sorry Gov. Perry, but we cannot risk our safety on your extreme right-wing views.
